The Swallowtail Mirror
PROJECT: Bernard Benny
make me! 2014
The „Swallowtail” mirror simply works as a hanging mirror. There are four distinct components in „Swallowtail” Mirror. The first is the two-part powder-coated frame. This consists of a mild steel hoop, which is tacked welded at right angles to a facing mild steel ring. The outer hoop includes the swallowtail joint at its’ base. The second component is the American White Ash veneered plywood disc, which is enclosed by the metal frame. Third is the powder-coated back plate that includes a keyhole slot to allow the mirror to be hung on a corresponding peg and sit flush against a wall. The fourth component is the mirror itself, cut to achieve a minimal tolerance press-fit into a routed recess in the veneered substrate.
