The MIO is a jug with a water filter. It consists of a vessel made of unglazed terracotta and a reusable activated carbon filter, ensuring contaminant-free drinking water. Thanks to the use of terracotta, the jug keeps the water cool by evaporation, so there is no need to store it in the fridge. Together, the filter and terracotta walls help remove the chemical taste often present in tap water. The activated carbon in the filter can be replenished by the user at home. This type of water can be a solution for areas where the water supply is contaminated or as a temporary solution for regions affected by natural disasters. The main source of inspiration for the design was the Hungarian terracotta jug, called ‘aratókorsó’, which has been traditionally made by village potters for centuries.
