A<\/span>n<\/span> alternative<\/span> for <\/span>decorative<\/span> plants<\/span>. Real <\/span>or<\/span> fake<\/span>, <\/span>both<\/span> are<\/span>n’<\/span>t<\/span> very<\/span> environmentally<\/span> friendly<\/span>. For <\/span>example<\/span> the plastic <\/span>production<\/span> for <\/span>artificial<\/span> plants<\/span> and the high <\/span>water<\/span> and <\/span>energy<\/span> use<\/span> in the <\/span>production<\/span> of real <\/span>houseplants<\/span>. <\/span>Besides<\/span> that<\/span>, <\/span>many<\/span> illegally<\/span> obtained<\/span> plants<\/span> are<\/span> in <\/span>circulation<\/span> worldwide<\/span>, <\/span>which<\/span> are<\/span> poached<\/span> from the <\/span>wild<\/span>. <\/span>This<\/span> has<\/span> serious<\/span> consequences<\/span> for <\/span>biodiversity<\/span>. <\/span>Poaching<\/span> of <\/span>wild<\/span> animals<\/span> and <\/span>plants<\/span> is<\/span> in the top 3 of <\/span>biggest<\/span> threats<\/span> to <\/span>biodiversity<\/span> worldwide<\/span>. It <\/span>comes<\/span> after<\/span> habitat <\/span>destruction<\/span>, but <\/span>before<\/span> climate<\/span> change<\/span>. To <\/span>draw<\/span> attention<\/span> to <\/span>this<\/span> problem, Laura <\/span>developed<\/span> a <\/span>biomaterial<\/span> made<\/span> from <\/span>botanical<\/span> waste for the development of “<\/span>rare”<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>artificial<\/span> plants<\/span>. <\/span>She<\/span> made<\/span> a <\/span>fermented<\/span> liquid<\/span> from the <\/span>stinging<\/span> nettle<\/span> in <\/span>which<\/span> good<\/span> bacteria<\/span> where<\/span> added<\/span>, <\/span>this<\/span> ensured<\/span> the <\/span>growth<\/span> of a <\/span>biomaterial<\/span> called<\/span> bacterial<\/span> cellulose<\/span>. A <\/span>very<\/span> strong<\/span> bio-material<\/span> which<\/span> consisted<\/span> of <\/span>pure<\/span> cellulose<\/span>. With <\/span>this<\/span> material<\/span> she<\/span> developes<\/span> fully<\/span> biodegradable<\/span> art-<\/span>plants<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n

\n Researches the future of sustainable and circular materials with a biophilic point of view. Her goal is to enrich interiors by the use of organic waste streams and bio- based matter. Subconsciously connecting its user with nature by implementing new bio-materials. The social connection between material, human and nature is intertwined in all her projects. Material always plays a leading role in the design process, this leads to intuitive design and circular concepts. Laura works on a collection of unique materials and likes to collaborate on bespoke projects. Those outcomes result in a variety of interior surfaces and objects, an interplay of reproducible design, craft, experimental and unique art works.
