make me! 2024

The project involved creating several  items from used skateboard decks made from seven layers of colorful Canadian maple veneers, which have significant design potential, despite being no longer suitable for riding. The biggest challenge was mastering the complex curves of the deck and appropriately adapting their nature to the designed product.

In Poland, the number of skateboarders is around 20,000 and each of them replaces their deck at least once a year. To avoid waste and ensure an easy supply of material, I designed a special stand for collecting used boards.

During the project I focused on making the production and preparation of the material cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

Among the designed items are a stool, a desk lamp, and a tray. The idea to create these particular items  emerged  during the study of the material and its characteristics, which suggested suitable functional uses.
