make me! 2014

“Dziupla” is a nesting box for passerines (sparrows, nuthatches, tits, flycatchers, redstarts, and woodpeckers) intended for installation on walls and trees in the city. The geometric form of origami refers to the trunk with a hollow which attracts birds to nest there.  A module shape makes it possible to install the box in various positions and create spatial sculptures that could be located on gable walls of buildings, on the model of murals. The intention of the authors is to set up a website where anyone could sponsor the nesting box project and co-create a composition in a desired location and in exchange the supporter would get a brooch in the shape of the box. “Dziupla” box is made of plywood and pine plank and painted with ecological varnish on the outside. The idea offers an interesting alternative to the typical birdhouses available on the market and is designed to encourage the support of the action aimed at protecting birds in the city. In our designs we care about the symbiosis between the natural and built-up environment, as well as about the sociological aspect of space. We developed an interest in birds protection in the city when we were working on the project of construction of a nesting tower for swifts which was the first to be built in Poland.
