In order to promote the achievements of contemporary designers, especially Polish ones, and thus prepare for their popularisation and for the education of the broad public in the area of history of design, in 2020 the curators of the Art Department of the Silesian Museum in Katowice came up with a programme initiative to develop the Arts and Crafts collection. In times of pandemic that were difficult for everyone, the first examples of domestic and global state-of-the-art design were acquired.
The exhibition consists of objects representing individual aesthetic trends, which are at the same time diversified in terms of materials as well as production technology – from classical craftsmanship to 3D printing. Thus, the Balt stool, made from biocomposite using a 3D printer, is intended to harmonise with the CHAOS kilim, woven in Bobowa.
The works on display are the announcement and the promise of creation of a museum collection showcasing the richness of contemporary design, participating in many areas of art and life.
