The Internet, digital tools, and new methods of production overturned many existing orders related to mass production, intellectual property rights, the relationship between original and copy, or producers and consumers.

(Almost) anyone can manufacture, produce, design. However, in practice, do open source projects implement the utopia of design accessible to everyone, democratic?

The exhibition How Open is Design? is an overview of projects that address the above issues and fall into categories such as social innovation/social design, hacking, manufacturing/customization, activism, open licensing and DIY.

Who designs open source solutions and who uses them? What is their entry threshold, taking into account factors such as price, availability of materials and technology, knowledge and skills? What are their visual features? What tools, environments, programs and formats do they use?
