The induction kettle design provided a pretext for considering sustainable design. One of the characteristics of a sustainable product that I analysed in my work was the durability of objects. Simple, beautiful, and reliable solutions to a large extent make us feel that we don’t want to part with them and are willing to use them for a lifetime. The main elements are the jug and the base – the induction cooker. The vessel can be washed in the dishwasher, and there is less noise generated by the appliance thanks to the use of passive cooling (the casing acts as a heat sink). The kettle can also be used as a tea pot. The design pays tribute to the value of mending and is an expression of opposition to the planned ageing of objects. The device is serviceable (logical design, use of standard screws, no so-called service traps), and the components can be recycled into raw materials.
