make me! 2017
The project addresses the issue of a disabled body. It focuses on the wrist, a joint that is subjected to strain due to the modern working system – most often at a computer. Many people suffer from specific conditions as a result of that. They refuse to wear orthoses because they are ashamed of them – due to the fact that they indicate a disability. MIKO+ is jewellery enhanced with a physiotherapeutic function, designed in cooperation with a physiotherapist. Its effectiveness has been confirmed at the Orthopaedic Hospital in Poznań. The project is a reflection on the condition of the non-normative body in the 21st century. The shame caused by the non-normative body manifests itself in the reluctance to use solutions present on the market, indicating the presence of a condition. MIKO+ is an unprecedented solution that innovatively combines a physiotherapeutic function with jewellery, making the user’s disability invisible. MIKO+ does not betray its medical function while adorning the body at the same time.
