make me! 2020
VX is a design of a bookcase The project resulted from the observations of contemporary industry, which consumes significant amounts of raw materials and generates waste. The goal of the project was to create a fully functional element of furniture, made entirely of wood, with a construction which will use minimal amounts of raw materials and will be 100% biodegradable. The bookcase is entirely manufactured of one type of material — 4mm plywood. The design involves simple physics laws and geometric principles — bending and straining make slack elements stiffen. Assembling the bookcase involves an installation of openwork (and flexible) shelves on vertical supporting elements. Vertical elements gain stability by expanding them with the use of a wedge. Assembly of the set takes merely a few minutes and is performed without any additional connecting elements. After it has been assembled the bookcase takes up very little space, weighs 5 kg and carries up to 100 kg of load. The final product uses about 70% less material than similar types of furniture.
