1. ŁÓDŹ DESIGN FESTIVAL
POLISH HOUSE
18-31.10.2007

In 2007, the premiere edition of the Łódź Design Festival took place – the first event in Poland devoted to broadly understood design.

The main point of the program was the “Polish House” exhibition, which was a thorough review of young Polish architecture and manufacturers who appreciated the importance of design for the development of enterprises, as well as a review of the works of young Polish designers. The presentation fruitfully combined two previously artificially separated fields – architecture and design. The works of over 30 designers of furniture, lamps, ceramics and fabrics were presented, along with the most interesting architectural projects current at that time in the field of the so-called apartment buildings.

The program also included: “Party Print” – an international exhibition of club posters covering the period 1990–2007 and “Take To Use!” – presentation of progressive utility design.

The manifesto of the first ever Łódź Design Festival was the commandments of a good designer formulated by Tomek Rygalik:

  • Don’t imitate others. Create things that give you the opportunity to express yourself.

  • Don’t waste time on decorating. Do you really want another toothbrush with a rubber handle that twinkles pink?

  • Dont lie. Design things to be what they are meant to be.

  • Do not kill. Use the original properties of materials and do not combine them with others unnecessarily. They will pay you and the environment back handsomely.

  • Don’t be selfish. Design things with the people who will use them in mind. Let items age beautifully.

  • Don’t over talk. Understatement triggers imagination, desire and curiosity
