make me! 2018
For the project “Women of the Bauhaus” I visited the Bauhaus archive in Berlin, where I read transcripts of the weaver Gunta Stölzl. I related to her notes strongly and felt understood. She faced the same worries, fears and thoughts then, that also concern me today. Immediately I decided to work with her quotations, but in an obfuscated, less obvious way. The following quotations are only revealed when a second, partially transparent textile is superimposed: “weaving is to set up, to construct ordered formations from disordered threads; by crossing itself, the soft loose thread becomes the surface.” “oh, i want to give myself away, but i know i have to wait and lean myself completely into myself.” (translated from the German by me) The design is inspired by one of Gunta Stölzl’s fabrics and a color study by Paul Klee. The collection is designed to meet the requirements of a modern user: their transparency allows for fexible combination and thus an individual spectrum of design possibilities.
