The Forgotten Collection investigates what is long forgotten, to make you think deeply about the modern modalities of materiality, time, value, production and reproduction, to create a new ontological imagination. The project is thus an archaeological record of radical alchemistic discovery, reinterpreting material narrations sunken to oblivion – lost beneath the impeccable surface of mass production. To provoke a re-evaluation of the passed material world we explored birch pitch, the bio-based ancestor of all systematically generated plastic materials (oldest finds about 120,000 years old). For the second edition we created a new thermoplastic combining shellac and bamboo charcoal. Due to the materials, any object of both editions can be melted and transformed once more into another. The objects illustrate that imaginary and lost.

Studio Lapatsch | Unger is formed by Anja Lapatsch and Annika Unger, a Berlin based design duo working independently and commissioned. As a duo we dedicate our work to the creation of objects, installations, videos and machines that are linked to storytelling, craft practice and the investigation of cultural values and human experiences. Our work is shaped by its context. We are curious cultural miners exploring the man-made, to create objects that are the essence of our research into contemporary cultural phenomena and anthropology. Based on this we use design as a tool for anthropology to reveal hidden informations and stories that lie beneath the mundane, to find poetic relationships between material, functions and the everyday. After several years of collaboration we graduated as a duo in the Master programme of the department for process and product design at the University of Arts Berlin in October 2016. We are giving workshops and work as design lecturers for various Universities and Institutions, like the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations (ifa), Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle and the Universityof Arts Berlin.
