Who will judge the works of young designers?
Until April 1, male and female designers can submit their designs to the international make me!. For the 18th time, judges will name the finalists and the winners, who will be announced in May. This year, the competition pool includes 50,000 PLN.
This year’s members and jury members:
- Kamil Białas – passionate about modernist architecture and timeless design. He studied international relations and Lithuanian philology at the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań. His love of writing about design and architecture led him to move to Warsaw, where he took up the position of editor in charge of “Bryla.pl”. Years later, he founded his medium, which today is a leader in the architecture industry in Poland. He is editor-in-chief of “whiteMAD” magazine and “whitemad.pl”. Since 2022, as a member of the Board of Experts, he supports the must have plebiscite, organised by Łódź Design Festival.
- Maciej Głowacki – a graduate of the Faculty of Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, he also studied at the Faculties of Physics and Chemistry at the University of Warsaw. Winner and finalist of numerous Polish and international design competitions, including make me!, C-Idea, James Dyson Award. Since 2014, he has been working at Polish technology company Sygnis S.A., where he created and leads the Design Department of several people. Over the years, he has implemented and managed the execution of dozens of projects intended for serial and unit production, working with numerous entities from the world of industry, services and science. In addition to his design activities, he also actively develops in the field of education as an external lecturer at the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw and an instructor at the Faculty of Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In design, he values thinking above all: critical, constructive, analytical and artistic.
- Maja Musznicka-Janiec – trend observer and researcher, founder of the trendwatching studio “TRENDIFY.lab”. She has been involved in the creative industry for more than a dozen years. She is engaged in supporting business with trend research and analysis, translating trends into the language of opportunities and possibilities. She constantly observes the world, travels, looks for out-of-the-box solutions and innovations, educates and helps work with the future. She is the editor-in-chief of the online magazine Milk & Sun, which has published more than 100 home stories showing how interesting people in the creative industry live and work. Her publications have also appeared in “Elle Decoration”, “Usta”, “&Living”, “K MAG”, “whiteMAD”, “Homebook Design”, “Czas na Wnętrze”, “Świat Rezydencji”, “TUU”.
- Michał Piernikowski – Director of Łódź Design Festival. Enthusiast of urban activities and design. Organiser and co-organiser of many projects related to creative industries, including: Ad Days Advertising Festival, Creative Industries Conference, Art_Inkubator and Fotofestiwal. Co-founder of Łódź Art Center; member of a team engaged in activities aimed at promoting the design in its broad sense in Łódź.
- Agnieszka Polkowska – designer, design curator, and educator with a Ph.D. in design. Her work focuses on exploring and understanding the dynamics observed in nature through speculative design and sustainable practices. Dean of the Department of Design at Academy of Art in Stettin, where she runs a speculative design studio and a design research course. She also carries out interdisciplinary courses at the Total Design Management postgraduate studies at Warsaw University of Technology. Agnieszka has had pleasure to cooperate with such institutions and initiatives as the Sustainability by Design at the Folkwang University of the Arts, Architecture AND Design at the Technical University of Munich, Pomeranian Science and Technology Park Gdynia, Gdynia Design Days, Łódź Design Festival and Institute of Industrial Design. She has also carried out R&D projects for clients such as Samsung, Ceramika Paradyż, Desa Unicum, Biżuteria YES, eobuwie.pl and many others.
- Jacek Ryń – product designer, owner of a design studio dedicated to supporting the development and implementation of everyday, HVAC, medical and public space solutions. He graduated in design from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, where he received his PhD in 2019. He is the head of the Product Design Department at the Gdansk Academy of Fine Arts. International member of the Industrial Designers Society of America. He gained experience working (Droog) and studying (Design Academy Eindhoven) in the Netherlands. He is the author of many implemented products. He often works with startups helping to develop innovative solutions, such as AbraJet, a device for painless dental treatment, or Skyracer, an ultralight flying vehicle.
The list of finalists will be announced in May, while the winners will be announced at the opening of the Festival, May 20. make me! is also accompanied by an exhibition and will be on display during the 19th Łódź Design Festival (May 20-25, 2025).
