“Rising from Rubble. The Past and Future of Ruins in Architecture” publication edited by Dr Adam Przywara accompanied the exhibition “Warsaw 1945-1949: Rising from Rubble” held at the Museum of Warsaw. It is not a traditional exhibition catalogue but rather an autonomous publication that places the themes discussed in the exposition in a broader historical and geographical context. The book raises the question of reusing materials in architecture through examples from the postwar reconstruction of Warsaw, as well as its pre-war history and contemporary times in Europe. It includes essays by scholars of architecture: Maciej Jagielak, Adam Przywara, Gabriela Świtek, Jarosław Trybuś, and Agata Zborowska. It is illustrated with photographs from, among others, the Museum of Warsaw collections as well as photos depicting contemporary examples of European architecture in the spirit of zero waste and circular economy. The publication won the award for the 2023 best museum book at the NIM contest.
