Design is our shared language
During the Łódź Design Festival 2025, we presented the first results of a joint project between the Łódź Design Festival and Romanian Design Week.
Within the framework of the ongoing POLAND-ROMANIA 2024-2025 Culture Season organized by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, with the support of the Polish Institute in Bucharest, the Ministry of Culture of Romania and the Romanian Institute of Culture, the two festivals invited architects and designers who decided to prepare projects drawing attention to the cities in which the festivals take place, proposing solutions that will improve the quality of life of the inhabitants.
One idea, two installations, two cities, one message
In May, residents of Bucharest and Łódź were able to test interactive urban installations designed to bring strangers together and create meeting spaces in the heart of both cities. The project, developed jointly by Romanian and Polish architects, carries a common message: public space should foster a sense of belonging, and such interventions are key to building residents’ relationships with their cities.
In Bucharest, the installation is located on Calea Victoriei, a representative avenue that turns into a pedestrian zone on weekends, becoming an open space for meeting and exploring the city. In Łódź, the project will be tested in various locations – it began its journey around the city at WOŚP Square, where it served participants of the Urban Future 2025 conference and the Local Government Climate Congress, and then facilitated a close-up view of the Łódź Design Festival.
This is the beginning of a journey, by the end of October 2025, the installation will be encountered in many spaces in Łódź and at major city events.
On May 25 in Łódź, a meeting was held during which representatives of both festivals: Michal Piernikowski and Raluca Mirel and the creators of the installation: Kasia and Paweł Lewoc of 2×3 Studio and Maria Duda of Baza Architekci presented the prepared projects and talked about the impact of such activities on the city and its residents.
Both projects will be presented until the end of October 2025.
