The exhibition concept indirectly responds to the often-contradictory aesthetic value and meaning of the creations of enthusiastic amateurs, influenced by hobby shows in mainstream media.
Unique projects by design students from three European countries use existing product portfolios from nearby hobby markets with the ambition to elevate the quality of DIY production to a new level. Is it design or hobby? With a designer’s eye and a designer’s mindset, they develop the idea of cheap, accessible, aesthetic, functional and eco-friendly design for those who cannot afford more expensive solutions.
In terms of ecology and sustainability, the use of locally available raw materials is increasingly called for. With a bit of exaggeration – isn’t it also the ready-made, mass-produced material from the nearby hobby market that is available at relatively low prices?
