A personal collection of memories on ceramic plates. Commemorative plates are not only unique and luxurious souvenirs, but also a component of cultural identity. A commemorative plate has always consisted of a characteristic, often originally-made script, hand-painted pattern on each copy, or a decal screen print.
The designer’s motivation was to re-establish the tradition of unique plate-production, transformed in a new, creative way and transposed to the contemporary visual language in collaboration with the users. The combination of the old (second-hand plates) and the new (contemporary, highly synthetic graphic design) resulted in interesting visual effects. This helped repel the perception of commemorative plates as objects with outdated, mundane aesthetic form, and re-establish them as exquisite, desired collector’s or daily objects.
The exhibition was included in the Łódź Design Festival 2024 program as part of the open programme call.
