The potato is a staple of Polish cuisine but rarely seen through the lens of design. The “Project BULWA”, led by students at School of Form at SWPS University under Arkadiusz Szwed and Maria Krześlak-Kandziora, reimagined the potato in a fresh, creative context. Students designed porcelain dishes that innovatively showcase potato dishes— kopytka by the meter, vertical pancakes, fries in display cases. The idea was to move beyond the flat plate and present the potato in unexpected forms. Before designing, students attended a potato feast by BioBazar, featuring 20 dishes from fries to gratin dauphinois. Each drew one dish to design for. Blending traditional ceramics with 3D modeling, the resulting forms spark imagination. A plate as a battleship board? A potato holder mimicking crumpled foil? “Project BULWA” proves design has no limits.
