Can heritage inspire young people? What new narratives can emerge from local cultural, social, or natural resources? How do designers influence the shaping of a place’s identity?
The exhibition “The New Weaves” presents selected student works created as part of courses at the Department of Visual Communication Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. These projects began with the exploration of local identity – craft and handmade traditions, well-known and lesser-known landmarks, or the cultural landscape. Young designers, blending traditional techniques and materials with digital skills, developed projects such as signage and visual identity systems for selected institutions, educational platforms and workshop stands promoting native culture, and even attempted to use natural resources to create new materials. “The New Weaves” becomes a pretext for rediscovering one’s own cultural identity.
The exhibition was included in the Łódź Design Festival 2025 program as part of the open call open programme.
