We are consuming more and more electricity worldwide, gradually becoming dependent on it for nearly every activity. In Poland, over 70% of this energy comes from coal combustion, which has the highest emissions among all available energy sources. The development of AI technology – which, on one hand, offers immense possibilities, and on the other, consumes vast amounts of electricity – combined with Poland’s current energy situation, led me to ask: what if one day we run out of power? These reflections inspired me to create “Caleo” – a proposal for cooking with reduced energy consumption, drawing on the old-fashioned method of “cooking under the blanket”, once used by our mothers and grandmothers. The project uses local materials such as stoneware from Bolesławiec and Polish sheep wool, and is a step toward revitalizing local craft manufacturers for which and in which it was created – the Artistic Handicraft Cooperative in Bolesławiec and the Skoczów Hat Factory, Polkap S.A.
