make me! 2025

“Linea” proposes a collaborative network connecting industries, materials, and culture in the Charente region of southwestern France. The project reimagines production as a collective effort, intertwining traditional rope-making with the renowned Limoges porcelain and the local oyster industry. The collection is crafted using an innovative porcelain composition with 50% oyster shell ash, repurposing the region’s abundant shell waste to significantly reduce the quantity of mined minerals in the clay. The design reinterprets historical ceramic forms to accommodate rope in various ways, allowing for numerous variations of the same object, while preserving the nearly forgotten craft of rope-making in Charente. In doing so, Linea reflects how traditional knowledge can inform new modes of production, offering a new aesthetic culture that corresponds with the material and social environments of the region.
