“Shaping Methods” is an experimental project that resulted in two collections of glass objects – vases with irregular, geometric structures. The project is an in-depth study of alternative methods of glass moulding. In order to reverse the classical process, we designed the form that can be modified right before blowing the glass. Such form gives various possibilities, allowing one to decide about the final shape, proportions, or function of the object in real time. The form consists of a wooden frame and interchangeable, movable parts, which create two different arrangements – the first is a regular grid, resembling a check pattern, while the second consists of irregular solids arranged in an asymmetrical pattern. We tested the limits, nature, and technological possibilities of glass, which resulted in objects with diversified forms. The project is a sentimental return to tradition of craftsmanship, with focus on creating one-off, small-batch pieces rather than mass production.

Tok Studio was founded by Sonia Bąk-Tokarska and Michał Tokarski, graduates of design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. They gained their experience at Szpunar Studio and Jan Kochanski Studio. Michal is an academic lecturer at the Institute of Art and Design at the Pedagogical University of Cracow. For the past three years, they have been teaching the Product Design course at Zhengzhou University of Aeronautics. They are focused on creating furniture, lighting, and utilitarian objects. They seek nonobvious solutions and reach for various technologies, craftsmanship, and art. In the design process, they combine drawing, modeling, prototyping, or 3D printing, thus analyzing the form, proportions, and functionality of each object. Selected for the Forms of the Future in 2020. Finalists in the Good Design 2021 competition. Their work has been mentioned in magazines: Elle Decoration, Label Magazine, Usta, Kukbuk, BIZNES.meble.pl, as well as websites: Minimalissmo, Wallpaper Store.
