“Urban Gaps” is a project consisting of nine forms that can act as shelters for insects and support structures for plants to grow over. Inspired by rapid urban growth and the lack of space for wildlife, I observed that urban gaps are sealed, and the empty spaces are quickly built over. This led me to create small, functional forms that support biodiversity in cities. Made from a material specially developed for the project, their porous structure provides ideal conditions for plants and insects, while ensuring durability and weather resistance. The project benefits insects, plants and people. It targets both cities looking for ecological solutions and private users. The aim is to educate and inspire action. Tested in urban spaces, early installations have shown that insects eagerly use the shelters, while people are fascinated by their function. The forms attract attention and invite reflection on the role of nature in cities, encouraging mindfulness as passers-by observe insects and plants using them.
